The old wood floors throughout the open-plan space are painted a dark eggplant. The vintage PP19 armchair is by Hans J. Wegner for PP Møbler. The painting above it is by Ruben Toledo, a friend of Peter Fehrentz, the resident. A trio of Tom Dixon lights hangs over the Pirkka dining table, with bench seating by Ilmari Tapiovaara for Artek. The Berber rug is from Morocco, purchased from the Paris shop Caravane.
The library is formed simply by two custom bookcases enclosing the space.
In the master bath, a dowdy tub was replaced with a standing shower designed by Di Ioia and Bédard and manufactured by Linea P International. The wall and floor tiles are by Ceragres, and the sink, tub, and towel rack are by Aqua Mobilier de Bain.
In the dining room, a Smoke chair by Marten Baas for Moooi keeps company with a glass-and-ceramic vase by Hella Jongerius and a mirrored steel painting by artist Michelangelo Pistoletto.
The floors were sanded and painted a deep matte black. The black makes the apartment look much bigger than it is," explains Barmon.
On the second-floor landing, just outside Liv’s bedroom, is the family’s “mushroom wall,” comprised of a blend of cypress and hemlock repurposed from the bedding bins of a mushroom-growing facility. During the mushroom growth cycle, enzymes digest and erode the soft wood grain, producing an organic, sculpted effect. ECOS chalkboard paint—zero VOC and non-toxic, natch—appears under the stairs.
