The backsplash and countertops are green quartzite to bring the colors of nature inside (but in retrospect, Bassam and Ming would pick another material besides natural stone for ease of maintenance). The flooring and all the cabinetry is  natural white oak. The pendant hanging over the dining table is NR2 by Moooi, chosen for its transparency.

The refrigerator and extra storage are assigned to the adjacent pantry. White oak cabinets from Thompson Woodworking join a honed Carrara marble counter and backsplash tile from Pratt and Larson in color C35. The stove is the GE Café series in matte white with brass details.

The custom shaker style cabinets were painted Benjamin Moore Knoxville Gray and mixed with walnut cabinets with an island overhang by Elite Remodeling Concepts, LLC. The stools are from Dovetail Furniture.

There’s now more functionality inside the door, with a built-in bench and closet storage. The green hex tile from Fireclay defines the space as separate from the rest of the living areas, while the same wood wall cladding unites them.

The interior is lined with Rimu, a native timber from New Zealand. This cladding follows the same gentle arch of the barrel vault and imbues the interior with warmth and the beauty of natural timber.  “The curved rimu-lined barrel vaults are one of my favorite moments,” reveals architect William Samuels. “I love the way they draw the eye to the arched windows at either end and provide warmth and delight to the interiors.”
