ABOUT THE PROJECT
The 1980s suburban house was transformed into a modern family home inspired by European interior design. The furniture, lighting, and decor was mostly sourced from European makers and designers. The European family in the space wanted the home to be modern yet warm and functional.
Kitchen:
For the kitchen, ACD gutted the entire space to modernize the main artery of the home. To create an open concept, we removed part of a wall, completely redesigned the cabinetry, and replaced the outdated tile with wood floors. We removed the extended peninsula and put a white island in the middle of the kitchen to create flow for the active family. We continued the Scandinavian style by adding black Bertoia bar stools to the island. After installing all the custom cabinetry, we utilized Caesarstone for the backslash and countertops.
Living Room:
The family centric neighborhood is known for the original brick. To keep the tradition in tact, we kept the interior brick and changed the details around it by removing the mantle, changing cabinet fronts, and adding a fresh coat of white paint. Another fix was replacing all the flooring throughout the house and adding modern decor.
Kids bathroom:
The black and white bathroom was a beige, fluorescent lighting nightmare. Allison Crawford Design changed the outdated flooring to a neutral geometric tile. To add natural light to the bathroom, the blinds were removed from the two windows. We replaced the fluorescent light with two exposed long light bulbs and painted the bathroom white. ACD kept the original layout of the sink and cabinets; however, she switched out the cabinet doors and replaced them with black cabinets instead. To make room for a vanity, we took out two of the cabinets.
Entryway:
The entryway railing and tile had to be replaces, so ACD replaced the tile with light wood floors. We took out the round railings and finishings and replaced them with sharp lines and white railing. The family brought the modern chandelier which was the perfect way to add a touch of modern to the entry.
