This prefab house is built around a system of 4' by 4' concrete modules and a reusable formwork to save on costs and materials.
This prefab house is built around a system of 4' by 4' concrete modules and a reusable formwork to save on costs and materials.
Thankfully, the house came with many of its furnishings, including a 1940s Florence Knoll sofa, an Elliptical table by Charles and Ray Eames, a George Nelson tripod floor lamp, and a Breuer-designed Long chair. A pair of Barcelona chairs by Mies van der Rohe replaced two Arne Norell Sirocco armchairs.

The Scyon Axon cladding of this gabled Melbourne addition gleams at midday. Designer Dan Gayfer punctuated the facade with sliding glass doors and a row of windows to fill the narrow home with sunlight.

Max De Pree House

Designed in 1954, the Zeeland, Michigan home of Max De Pree—son of Herman Miller founder D.J. De Pree, and later the CEO—melded local style and history with Scandinavian cool, including a sleek vertical shape and a cedar exterior.

Kjærholm was influenced by the Barcelona Pavilion and the complimentary furniture by Mies van der Rohe. Again, the matte steel frame with its the exposed joints is on full display. As a continuation of his material vocabulary, the base is connected by rubber fasteners and screws .
