SkyHouse Joshua Tree
SkyHouse is a signature architectural, wabi-sabi inspired hideaway perched on 8 private acres in the heart of Joshua Tree, with a luxury pool and hot tub and direct walking access to miles of national
park trails. A three bedroom, two bath expansive desert home that blend the landscape from
interior to exterior. The goal was to allow the surrounding desert to blend from outside to inside by incorporating large plate glass window sliding doors open on a both sides of the living room. The glass doors slide open revealing 25 feet of open space on each side. Clerestory windows bring in more light and sky–inspiring the name of the property: SkyHouse. The open air feel expands the living room seemingly out towards the 1,700 square foot of additional patio space, greatly expanding the home visually and framing the surrounding desert like a painting. The SkyHouse steel panel exterior is inspired by a stunning example of rusted steel facade at the City Library Bruges by Studio Farris Architects. The exterior mirrors were inspired by Doug Aitken’s art installation–a mirrored home located near Palm Springs titled ‘Mirage’.It’s a California ranch-style house covered entirely in mirrors and featured in the 2017 exhibit at the biannual Desert-X, a contemporary outdoor art exhibition. The high-desert is known for its extreme weather.
