According to MacLean, the design team incorporated suspended Tencel structures on the main house's deck to "help add a little whimsy, and of course, functionally, provide shade." The deck is made from low-maintenance ipe wood.
The buildings on the property sit close together, with carefully considered landscaping connecting them into a cozy compound. The main house's deck, which sits about 15 feet above the ground, sits on structural fins. Thin stainless steel railings almost disappear against the forest views.

Architect Kengo Kuma designed a floating, transparent structure supported by very thin steel columns. Transparency was a common design goal for the entire project.
