Modern Lighting Options for Every Room
Although often sought for its function, lamps, and light fixtures are a simple way to add personality to an interior. A sculptural table lamp and artful chandelier can double as pieces of art, while minimalist sconces and task lights add a sense of serenity to a room. Browse some of our favorite pendant, table, floor, and wall lights here, and be sure to view the complete collection at the Dwell Store.
Both sculptural and light, the Dancing Pendant Light from Menu is a refined overhead light with an unexpected shape. The pleated shade is constructed of a polyester felt, giving the pendant both visual and tactile texture. Resembling a tutu or a skirt, the shade has a flared, pyramidal silhouette that is given certain movement with the undulating waves of the shade. The Dancing Pendant Light was inspired by the idea of an elegant dancer on the floor, mid-twirl.
The Type 75 Mini Floor Lamp is an elegant floor light that is designed with small spaces in mind. The lamp is defined by its classic Anglepoise looks—it features clean lines and a simple shade—and a thin profile. Available in several colors that range from neutral to bold, the Type 75 Mini Floor Lamp is an excellent lighting source to either complement existing decor or provide a striking accent to a space.
Rich Brilliant Willing’s Delta Floor Lamp is a flawless marrying of traditional and modern design. Utilizing the established box pleat technique, Delta is comprised of folded fabric in a unique silhouette that creates a more contemporary look of the familiar lampshade. Inspired by a rocket engine—notice the octagonal, rounded shape of the shade—the lamp was named after an astrodynamic number (Delta-v).
Designed by Nat Cheshire for Resident, the Oud Table Lamp is a versatile light that can be used as a desk light or as an accent lamp on a bedside table. Structured in a sharply angled, continuous line, the brass lamp conceals the mechanisms for the LED, making the light appear as if it is coming from the metal itself. The Oud diffuses warm light, and is operated by the crimson marble sphere at the lamp’s base.
Danish lighting company Ilomio designs lighting that blends superior function with thoughtful aesthetics. The Radius series of lamps was inspired by the solar system. Each fixture in the series is made of lightweight aircraft grade aluminum and features radial bands that illuminate inward, creating a warm glow of indirect light within the light. Available in both bold and neutral colors, the Radius LED Wall Sconce can make a striking or subtle statement in an interior.
Where other wall lights can appear weighty and expected, the Hope Wall Light from Luceplan provides a more optimistic option. Crafted from incredibly light materials, Hope reinterprets traditional lamps with a more sophisticated technology and contemporary materials. Although it appears to be made of glass, Hope consists of a series of thin polycarbonate Fresnel lenses, which are created by using imprinted microprisms on film to achieve a glass-like effect, without the limitations of thickness and weight.
