The core of the glass-enclosed spiral stair is a hexagon, a reference to the moments in the floor plan in which six triangular modules are joined together to form the shape.
The home’s ground level features engineered oak flooring. The staircase, which leads to the house’s upper and lower levels, was constructed out of steel folded plate and subsequently clad in timber.
The open staircase includes a lot of glass and is a focal point of the home, says Niffenegger. The staircase leads to a loft upstairs and three bedrooms on the lower level. The master bedroom sits on the second floor. Red oak hardwood floors run throughout the residence.
“The treads are open because we wanted to have as much light come down as possible,” says Dimster.
The fireplace surround and staircase are fabricated from steel with a clear coat. Enclosed with glass on two sides, the space allows nature to flow inside.
