Custom built-in storage was a splurge Michelle and Haden were willing to spend on. In the laundry room, Fireclay tiles were another high-spend choice. "It was out of our budget," Michelle says, "but it was so dramatic, and we saved so much by using inexpensive white tile in the bathroom.

In the family room, which connects the addition with the original house, Janusz opted for a vaulted ceiling. "To transition from the single-story space, we used a change in volume relative to the new flat ceilings.

Living Room

The original ceiling, made from old-growth pine, adds warmth to the living room, balancing out the white walls and salvaged white oak flooring.

A wood shutter closes the shower to the outdoors when guests want a feeling of privacy.

The house's largest expanse of glass comes at this living-room corner, which a window seat helps make a destination, be it for Zara working with her laptop of the couple's guests.

In the living room, soft-hued seating arranged in a circle is perfect for entertaining. On the far wall, Sunrise Over the Hudson, by Erik Koeppel, competes with the stunning scenery outside. “Charlie was interested in skewered views, like looking straight up at the sky and then out to the woods,” says Rick.

In the dining room, a table from Don Willis painted in Benjamin Moore Advance paint anchors the space, with a light fixture from Crate & Barrel overhead.

The living area, dining area, and kitchen all get plenty of natural light and views.

The first of two newly-introduced organizational volumes, the white entry box contains coat and shoe storage for the family, along with concealed HVAC components.

An array of Fucsia pendants by Achille Castiglioni illuminates an Alden dining table by Eastvold and Chanel chairs from Article. The Eames Molded Armchairs are from Herman Miller’s polypropylene edition.

A BoConcept sectional is joined by a Yngve Ekström lounge chair and ottoman and an Eames chair in the living area. The couple found the vintage Danish coffee table at a flea market, while the traditional Indian stools were purchased for their wedding. Whitewashed poplar clads the far wall.
