“Where we let loose was on the window,” Matt says. “It’s an aluminium window frame, which is bushfire compliant and easy to install, but the way that we detailed it was about hiding the frame so that the eye is drawn into the space.”

Main bathroom

In the master bathroom, Godmorgon vanities from Ikea stand next to a dual-flush Aquia toilet from Toto. A Tolomeo Wall Spot lamp, designed by Michele De Lucchi and Giancarlo Fassina for Artemide, hangs above the mirror.

The floor tile is from Virginia Tile, while the wall tile is from Daltile.

The downstairs bathroom features blue tiles. As the color orange is used on the main living floor, the color blue is found throughout the basement level. "It has something to do with the nearby bay and that by going down you are taking a journey under the water," explains Edgar.

Paying homage to the husband's family's tile business, employing distinct tile was one way the couple added a special touch to their vacation home.

The rental’s bathroom is finished in Benjamin Moore’s Hot Spice, paired with color-matched grout.

A peek inside the downstairs bathroom, which is covered in mosaic tiles that echo the microcement finish used throughout the home. “As it is a north-facing room, matte and gloss finishes have been employed to play with reflections from sunlight as it enters the space,” note the architects.

Floral tiles bring pattern and a peaceful color palette to this bathroom.

In the skylit master bathroom, Dandelion tile from Marrakech Design is paired with tile from Ann Sacks. The fixtures are by California Faucets and the mirror is from Paris Mirrors.

A bathroom for kids features retro-style materials, including a vintage-inspired sink, toilet, and pink mosaic tile.

In the master bathroom, a skylight shines natural light onto Cle Tile and lighting fixtures by Rejuvenation. Paul Rene designed the custom white oak vanity and mirrors.

Maziarski's advice for renovating your master bath? “While your sanctuary doesn’t need to mimic a Greek villa, take a moment to look at your space and identify a few things that can make it your own retreat,” he says.

The guest bathroom features bright turquoise Arcilla Field tiles by Ann Sacks and brass fixtures and fittings that will develop a patina over time. A skylight above the shower provides natural light and brightens the room.

Strongly contrasting colors were used to differentiate bedrooms and bathrooms. The master bath is awash in reddish hues with a custom freestanding vanity by Studio Bright.

The shower room and WC on the lower ground floor is accessed via the utility room, which also features counters by Smile Plastics.

The furniture comes from antique shops and flea markets.

The custom white oak vanity was given the same treatment as the storage in the family room.
