Large clerestory windows span across the main living room, complete with sliding glass doors that open up to the backyard.

The bedrooms are just as open to the outdoors as the common spaces.

ReSawn Timber Co. was also behind the white oak floors, which sits under a round Winston wood table from Rove Concept and chairs from CB2. The head farmer made the wood dining table in the background.

A blush-pink backsplash comprised of Cle Zellige tile adds a playful pop of color in the kitchen, while also complementing the custom cabinetry and sculptural wood pillars.

The slats on the window offer solar protection and privacy. “Before the slats were installed, it really felt like you were just living on the street,” says Vanbesien.

The primary bedroom is wrapped in plywood from floor to ceiling.

New windows in the house prioritize desert views.

The kitchen opens to a cozy living area located in the shell of the original home.

Modern Windsor chairs by Hay surround an oak extension table by Ethnicraft. “You flip a lever and it gets larger,” Lachapelle says. The original plan called for a center island, but the owners wanted the flexibility of a table they could also use as a prep surface. The oak cabinet behind the sofa is on casters for additional utility. “We can even use it outside,” the husband says.

The house was built by Medellín company Edificar Más, whose owner, Verónica Vásquez, took on the complex challenge “with gusto,” says Serge. Other local collaborators include Taller Hombre de Hojalata, which designed and fabricated the metal staircase and mezzanine that doubles as the family library.

A squadron of Louis Poulsen PH5 lamps hovers in the kitchen. Knoll chairs surround a vintage wood table that Serge bought in Mexico in 2004.

A view from the top of the main residence’s staircase reveals a serene internal courtyard situated between the garage and the home.

A splash of dark green paint in the sleeping nook introduces an old world drama to the space. The paint color is Billiard Green from Sherwin Williams. The crochet pendant is from World Market, and the brass bull was an eBay find. The couple's dog Waylon lounges in the pull-out dog bed drawer.

Whitewashed pine walls and an exposed pine ceiling help soften the space, while artworks and vintage finds give it life. The black and white drawing is by Adam himself, and the couple found the hanging tumbleweed in a fence somewhere between Marfa and El Paso.

Plenty of natural light comes in via the rear glass wall.

A slim storage space tucked behind the built-in seat acts as a coat rack. The green drawer at the bottom is shoe storage. The cutout on the right was necessary for the drawer to clear the hinge on the bathroom door.

Ash lives in the detached backyard unit and has comfortably hosted 10 people in the space.
