The existing bungalow-style home in San Francisco, California was two stories, with a finished basement and desirable South-facing backyard. Edmonds + Lee Architects preserved the front of the house, painting it black and refinishing the front door to its natural wood tone.

Marlatt built the cabinets in place from Russian Birch plywood, and the counters are a thin application of Neolith stone. The backsplash is glass, making for easy clean-up, and a few of the cabinet fronts are painted Masonite, for fun pops of color. The ceramics on the shelves are by Burgevin.

Adding storage under the new stair maximizes the kitchen's footprint. Hemlock wood on the stair was stained to complement the casework. The faucet is from Brizo and the green backsplash tile is Heath.
