The Gilbert House is clad in matte black wood and concrete, and situated on a steep site.

The site already had a pool when Anacapa Architecture began planning the design of the clubhouse. To merge the two structures more organically, the architects introduced stadium-like seating that descends from the clubhouse's second-floor deck down to the pool area.

Cube by NOMAD Micro Homes measures 13.5' x 13.5' x 13.5' and is currently available for $38,800 on Amazon. The eco-conscious home, which comes with instructions for do-it-yourself assembly, can be flat-packed and shipped worldwide.

The project was led by architect Jesús Perales, who recently won the XI Bienal Alejandro de la Sota - Muestra de Arquitectura de Tarragona.

When Pablo Pérez Palacios’ Mexico City–based architecture firm PPAA was tasked with building an apartment tower to meet La Colonia Roma's need for additional housing, he faced a problem familiar to developers in historic neighborhoods everywhere. The site was occupied by a dilapidated home that dates to 1925, and local laws required that the facade and part of the structure be maintained. PPAA’s innovative approach was to cut the original three-story home in half, preserving enough of the building to front the street and hold two apartments replete with classic Victorian details like high ceilings and restored millwork. In the back of the lot, they designed a sleek eight-story apartment tower that would hold an additional nine apartments, for a total of 11 units. Not bad for a site that was previously an uninhabited single-family house.

Clad in zinc, stucco, cedar, and glass, Tree House by Aidlin Darling Design is a slender, two-story home composed of interlocking rectangular volumes, and fronted with a low-lying garage.

The young and busy family (the couple have twin teenage girls and a toddler) also runs their equine business from the property’s stables.

Inspired by historic American farmhouses, a modern dwelling at the base of the Rocky Mountain Foothills in West Boulder, Colorado was designed by Boulder-based firm Surround Architecture. At the transition between the living room and kitchen, firewood is stored in a metal box that projects out from the wall, announcing itself with its contrasting color and slim profile.

The pyramidal roofs of the cabins allow snow to slide down to the ground.

The home's rectilinear floor plan facilitates coastal cross-breezes (or passive cooling), while thermally broken double-glazed windows ensure the building envelope stays tight so as to reduce carbon emissions.

Supported on thin columns, the main volume hovers above the graveled entry, reaching out into the surroundings.

The central, rectangular, concrete structure features expansive glazing which showcases the stunning scenery from every angle.

Conceived as an escape from city living, this 2,580-square-foot prefab comprises two primary and 11 secondary modules, while the 290-square-foot guest cabins consist of single modules craned into place atop concrete piers.

The cozy study is furnished with custom timber shelving, a Gus Modern Jane sectional, a Womb chair, an ottoman designed by Eero Saarinen for Knoll, and a Noguchi table.

The new entry is divided from the kitchen and dining area by a fir screen. Wood cabinetry wraps the kitchen.
