Like phase one, phase two will have a wood-clad foyer and dining area that will act as an extension.

The home is composed of four materials: white standing-seam metal, Lueders limestone, wood, and white plaster, the latter used for exterior walls where the pitched volumes have been cut away.

A Regency wood-burning stove provides heating to the living space. The floors are tumbled Bluestone tiles.

The facade is wrapped in custom-milled Douglas fir siding and punctuated with CommDoor black anodized aluminum windows. "We choose Douglas fir as our wood for the project for its warmth and ubiquitous heritage in Ontario cottage country," says Smirnis.

Designed to be energy efficient and to have a minimal impact on the environment, Fish Creek House by Archiblox was inspired by the principles of permaculture and the homeowners’ desire to be self-sufficient as they work towards minimizing their carbon footprint. The kitchen backsplash tiles are Perini tiles in jaca bronze, their metallic glaze reflecting the natural light.

The Caesarstone quartz counter overhangs to provide bar seating, then angles down with a waterfall edge to meet the new floor finish. Black counter stools from Rejuvenation are a nice contrast to the white counter.

The second-floor landing has unobstructed sight lines to the street and enjoys natural lighting.

The guest bathroom was enlarged and finished with Moroccan plaster.
