The large, naturally lit kitchen is the heart of the house. Messmate-clad cupboards and huge expanses of glass dominate the space where Angelucci uses the sink, Gorman works at the kitchen island, and Pepa and Hazel look on. Play in the courtyard between the kitchen and garage is easily supervised and enclosed from the alley behind the house.

The kitchen features exposed Vic Ash Glulam beams sourced from Australian Sustainable Hardwoods.

In Slovenia’s Bohinj Valley, an area in the northwestern part of the country surrounded by the Julian Alps, local firm OFIS arhitekti transformed an old cattle barn into a 1,507-square-foot family retreat. The original exterior, which is composed of a rugged stone base with a timber-truss framework and wooden walls above it, was kept intact, but the architects built a new internal wooden shell using locally milled spruce to alter and freshen up the interiors.

The firm then combined a palette of steel, concrete, and oak in the elegant, double-height rear addition.

Sullivan wanted to bring an oyster bar to Nashville that had the same quality as any outpost in New York or Los Angeles. Ten to 15 oyster and shellfish varieties are on deck here, and they're served under vintage-inspired pendants from Southern Lights.
