From the street view, an angular slatted facade conceals a home from the outside world while also carefully hinting at what's inside. Behind those entry screens in Brisbane, Queensland, the three-level Australian home created by Bureau Proberts is finely attuned to its sloping site. A generous skylight over the front door opens the entryway to the sky, while substantial glazing in the master bedroom conveys the feeling of being perched high in the treetops.

Trellises made of painted aluminum and Alaskan cedar shade a deck off the master bedroom. The Shito chaise longue is from Paola Lenti, the Cluster coffee table by Christian Woo, and the sculpture by Ryosuke Yazaki from The Future Perfect.

Hidden in the canyon trees, this estate enjoys treetop views from the deck which opens to the living room.

The rooftop garden not only provides daily food for the family, but also a place to rest every afternoon.

The home’s L-shaped layout is reminiscent of farms in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, and it shields against strong winds from the lake beyond.

On the roof, Claudio and Aranza sit on salvaged blocks of wood around a “water mirror” that reflects the sky. On clear nights, you can gaze both up and down at the stars, an activity that gives Casa Cosmos its name.

The addition, which includes a bedroom and a bathroom, also boasts an enclosed deck, a feature recommended for those with Alzheimer’s. “Ken used to do the landscaping here,” says Wibowo. “He also put many of the shingles on the original house.”

Cohen added floor-to-ceiling shelving from Rakks including a low shelf which works perfectly as a double desk for her children and that is also a very efficient use of space.

The ipe wood private roof deck has 360-degree views and the family's edible garden. There is also enough space to fit a large dining table.

Low maintenance Western Red Cedar requires little long-term upkeep, even when untreated, handles the weather beautifully year after year, and left unfinished gains a beautiful silver-gray patina.

The home emphasizes a pull to the western view: joinery volumes, the direction of decking and soffits, the board forming in the concrete, the custom elongated strip lighting, and the large cantilevered decks all stretch westward to reinforce and frame the surrounding scenery.
