Curated Properties is a minimal sales center located in Toronto, Canada, designed by Mason. Curated Properties is a condominium sales center developed within disused industrial shipping containers. The naturally linear form of the shipping containers lend to a systematic procession through the sales center allowing the sales team to narrate the story of the product to the purchasers in a guided manner. Interior finishes and details are to reflect the temporary nature of the sales center and to embody the spirit of the project’s identity. Unfinished plywood, raw metals, canvas, and untanned leathers are used in methods to reflect detailing of traditional retail environments. The pairing of unrefined materials with quality handmade local furniture, millwork and custom artwork creates a backdrop to the sale experience.

While shopping for containers, Hill was instantly drawn to this one’s existing blue color and chose to buy it and leave it as is. Poteet added floor-to-ceiling sliding doors to allow light in, as well as a cantilevered overhang to shade a window on the left side, which houses a small garden storage area.

Finished in 2013, the 3,660-square-foot Casa Incubo was built from stacking and sliding four shipping containers to create a residence and gallery for photographer Sergio Pucci (who took all the photos of his new home). Set on flat ground, the two-story structure ended up being much easier for architect Maria Jose Trejos to complete than a typically constructed home, saving roughly 20 percent of the cost of a standard concrete block design.

The home was built by two construction workers and the couple themselves, who were familiarized with the construction process and had backgrounds in industrial engineering. “We did not have blueprints for this design, and created only a 3-D model to guile them along the way,” Saxe says.

The roof of this residence was made from scraps taken from the sides of the shipping containers. Its slanted design creates a wind tower effect that provides natural ventilation and negates the need for air-conditioning.
