The system’s modules have a set design, but floor plans and finishes can be customized.

Previously, the area that now houses the ensuite was a jumbled arrangement of separate spaces, including dressing room, toilet, and shower. By opening the space up and creating a single en-suite, it feels more generous. The fluted glass used in the doors and windows is echoed in the bathroom cabinet.

The custom microcement color used in the bathroom—which was inspired by the red of Marrakech in Morocco—took countless samples to perfect. “It's a deep, earthy red, and none of the standard colors could achieve it,” says Benjamin.

Leila made the light in the primary bedroom herself from a simple kit using silk fabric she bought in Madrid. "

In the bathroom, various offcuts of stone form a backsplash and vanity. Juli made the toilet paper holder out of materials found in her studio. The sink came from a boys’ school and was sourced from an architectural salvage in England.

La Base also designed the bathroom’s modular hangers.

An olive-green rendition of Danish furniture brand HAY’s Palissade Cone Table complements the new green awning. Powder-coated steel chairs, also from HAY, surround the table.

For the redesign of a 430-square-foot flat built in the 1970s, Madrid firm BURR Studio integrated all the main facilities of the home into a central core. “The toilet is the only element that can be isolated,” notes the firm. “The rest of the areas merge into one another so that the tenants essentially sleep in the bathroom, as well as shower in the living room.”

The new powder room is a sleek and simple design that reflects the home’s minimalist approach.
