Writer and journalist Bruce Porter’s off grid getaway on an island off the Maine coast, was designed by his architect daughter, who is the founder of her own practice Alex Scott Porter Design. Sited close to the water it has a screen porch was angled to capture direct southern exposure for the solar panels.

Oliver Dang, architect and founder of Six Five Four A, typically works from home, but his rambunctious toddler made him recognize a need for more space with fewer distractions. Instead of immediately turning to office rentals, however, Oliver wanted to see how the numbers would stack up if he were to build his own workplace.
This 172-square-foot cabin by Oslo-based architects Jarmund/Vigsnæs AS Arkitekter MNAL have boundaries that are defined by an underground pipeline and the height lines of the terrain, with windows and doors strategically positioned to prevent people from being able to look inside it, while offering the writer scenic views of the outdoors.
