At the bottom of the stairs is a second living space that includes a fireplace. The couple couldn't find a television that didn't clutter the cool minmalism so they prefer to use a projector to watch movies. The sofa was designed by Barber-Osgerby for Cappellini, and the Djinn chair is by Olivier Morgue.
Metal shingles cut from scraps of sheet metal mix with new material as well as odds and ends, such as a road sign Baker bought at the Alameda Flea market. Baker designed stainless steel clips that allow any tile to be easily moved or replaced without the use of tools. Planter box panels add functionality to the facade and can be swapped out or relocated throughout the year.
Ceilings are typically composed of concrete beams and blocks that are covered with drywall and paint. But for this project, the architects left them bare to texturize the room. ”It creates a beautiful contrast with the snow white walls and splashes of yellow,” they explain. The painting on the wall is by Magdalena Karpińska.
