When Ana’s design team at Fala Atelier first proposed blocky kitchen cabinets with dramatic stripes, Ana hesitated. “I thought it would be too much,” she says. “But it’s not. It is incredible, and it is very elegant.” Fala’s Filipe Magalhães says the plays of scale and direction in the house’s patterns make the modest spaces feel grander and create a visual rhythm.
In the kitchen and dining area, the Akoya pendant by Rich Brilliant Willing hangs over a Bend Goods Bistro Table; the Hoist Sconce over the Signature Hardware kitchen sink and faucet is also by RBW. A Material Kitchen cookware set and Kinto coffee set outfits the kitchen, along with Neenineen ceramics and Snowe glassware. A SMEG fridge adds a retro touch.
Before: The Jennings Residence was built in 1965. The entry has a distinct vaulted ceiling over the stairwell, with a skylight and expressed structure. “The architecture team had envisioned using telephone poles for the posts but they weren't able to get the telephone poles up the street because it's winding and narrow,” says Jason Miller Smith, the current owner. “So, they flew the poles in via helicopter to the job site. To this day, everyone on the street says, ‘You moved into the helicopter house.’”
