YETI’s Camping Chair Is a Beast in the Category, Just as You’d Expect
It’s been a win for consumers as YETI has responded by diversifying their lineup—did you ever think you’d love a five-gallon bucket? Their furthest trip afield, and my new favorite product of theirs, is their Hondo Base Camp Chair.
Camping chair innovation typically comes from the ultralight category, but YETI has never heard of that word. The Hondo weighs in at 16.5 pounds, and—you may want to sit down for this—a $300 price tag, and that’s without the optional gear bag and carry tote.
With cheap camping and beach chairs being a fixture in YouTube fail compilations, it’s easy to see why YETI made a chair that will outlast all of us, but the Hondo is more than just an impervious piece of furniture. For starters, it’s actually extremely comfortable and breathable, much more so than I was expecting it to be. It’s rated to support 500 pounds without starting to warp, but support is the key word there. The Hondo is more comfortable to sit on than a lot of desk chairs I’ve been in. Also it…actually looks really good?
Small touches round out the package, like UV protection, a well-placed carry handle (you’ll need it), and the fact that the removable cup holder remains parallel to the ground throughout the folding and unfolding process.
To say YETI’s Hondo Chair is targeted at enthusiasts is an understatement, but if that’s you, or money is no object, this is a damn fine chair.
