Nicolas Henchoz and EPFL + ECAL Lab

Picked as one of our favorite international design schools in the December/January 2010 issue, EPFL + ECAL Lab in Lausanne, Switzerland, is a new program that marries the design know-how of the University of Art and Design Lausanne (ECAL) and the engineering prowess of the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL).

The director of the lab, Nicolas Henchoz, was in San Francisco recently to help launch the two-week run of ECAL grad Camille Scherrer's show Give Me More at swissnex San Francisco, just a block from the Dwell offices, and I sat down to chat with him about what makes EPFL + ECAL so unique. Though I'd visited both schools in April, and actually had lunch with Nicolas then, I was impressed to learn just how far the program has come and what tony partners its finding.

Have a look at what Nicolas had to say about what we think is one of the most innovative and exciting design programs in the world.
