Johannes (Jo) Hammerborg trained as a silversmith before joining Copenhagagen's Kunstakademiet, the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts.
In 1957 he became head of design at Fog & Mørup, where he created over 60 lamps and assisted in bringing a new modernist aesthetic to the company before leaving in 1980 to start his own lighting design business.
