A Bay Area Eichler With a Backyard Casita Lists For $1.2M
Designed by Claude Oakland, this OKC-63 model Eichler is defined by its massive, open-air atrium.
Located in the Sequoyah Hills neighborhood of Oakland, California—one of the smallest Eichler neighborhoods in the Bay Area—this 1965 model, known as the OKC-63, was designed by renowned midcentury modern architect Claude Oakland.
Oakland, who worked for Joseph Eichler for over 25 years, was credited with designing over 3,430 Eichler homes and was said to have been responsible for "cleaning up the lines" of some of the original designs—helping to create what is now known as the Eichler aesthetic. Boasting original features and heaps of midcentury charm, 8050 Shay Drive has all the trappings: a large, central atrium; a great room with unpainted, tongue-in-groove ceilings; original wood wall paneling; and a wood-burning brick fireplace to anchor it all.
The home, which has a two-car garage, makes use of clerestory windows to keep the interiors sunny.

ShopFoscarini Twiggy Arc Floor Lamp
The Foscarini Twiggy Arc Floor Lamp is a graceful statement of structural elasticity and material discovery. Made from a fiberglass composite material similar to fishing rods, the stem is able to withstand heavy tension and bounce back to the original form without permanently stretching. By adding and removing the provided counterweights to the drum shade, the height of the arc can be adjusted to preference. The playful design casts a comforting light below and above the fixture through prismatic diffusers, completely shielding the light source for a pleasing lighting experience. Foscarini, headquartered in Italy, offers superb contemporary lighting products in playful and inspiring designs. In partnership with both established designers and emerging designers, Foscarini has created an exciting collection of products for residential and commercial applications. Photo Courtesy of Lumens
