A Minimalist Mediterranean Home Rises in Rural Spain
The site of a former family vineyard becomes the wild and rugged canvas for Casa en el Campo—a modern home built from sleek, minimalist design.
Surrounded by vineyards and majestic trees, Casa en el Campo, which translates to 'house in the countryside,' has been designed by local studio CU4 Arquitectura for a young urban couple who were eager to trade the chaos of life in the city for a calmer, more peaceful environment.

The home is located on the family's old winery near Valencia, Spain, and has been built to appear as a simple, white cuboid structure to complement the former vineyard setting.
The architects achieved unity and continuity in the home's façade, despite the unevenness of the terrain.

Spanning across two levels, the home's lower floor features the garage, as well as a double-height, open-plan kitchen, living and dining space. There is also a nearby patio, which includes a swimming pool.

The upper mezzanine level includes a leisure space with a sofa, a pool table, and four bedrooms, which are completed with ensuite bathrooms. This upper level also has a catwalk corridor that looks down to the living space on the ground floor.

The architects created a sense of continuity in all areas of the house using the same pure white color scheme both for the interior and exteriors.

Polished cement was used for the common areas on the lower level, while wood was used for the more private mezzanine level to create a sense of warmth and intimacy.

"Casa en el Campo is about simplicity, and warm minimalism. We wanted to achieve the perfect contrast between tradition and modernity, respect for the environment, and a union of new and old," notes Anna Ferrer, co-founder of the firm.
