Muhammad Ali’s Massive Hancock Park Mansion Hits the Market For $17M

The infamous heavyweight champion’s elaborate Italian Renaissance mansion is looking for a new owner.

In 1979, "The Champ" and his then-wife, Veronica Porché, purchased this elaborate Hancock Park estate to be their family home. It was, at the time, "the most luxurious residence that any heavyweight champion had ever owned," according to Thomas Hauser in his book Muhammad Ali: His Life and Times. The family lived in the home until Ali and Porché divorced in 1986. The home has changed hands a few times since, and it's currently on the market for $16,999,000.

Designed by John C. Austin—the architect responsible for iconic L.A. structures like the Griffith Observatory, the Shrine Auditorium, the Hollywood Masonic Temple, and Los Angeles City Hall—the over-the-top, 10-bedroom, seven-bath estate was originally built in 1916 and is set on approximately 1.6 acres of park-like grounds. The 11,545-square-foot home includes Tiffany stained glass windows, dramatic chandeliers, stone fireplaces, a large guest house, and a pool. Read on for a look inside.
