Snag This Copper-Clad Home in London For Just Under $1M
Shining like a 'sleeping princess,' the Copper House was originally constructed for two actors. Now permanently based in the south of France, the duo decided to say au revoir to their former home.
"When we sold our London property and moved to France in 2002, we kept a small plot of land on which to build ourselves a pad for when we worked there," says Bill, one of the homeowners.
"We built it in 2018, with the idea of having a second place in London. However, we used the Copper House so little—a couple of weeks within six months—that it didn't make sense to keep it. So, it is now for sale!"
Like a glittering royal crown, the home is a striking example of contemporary architecture, with the ground floor clad in brick and the upper level clad in copper. "When Jamie le Gallez of SOUP Architects first suggested the copper and sent me some renderings, I was bowled over," describes Bill. "The house is a princess."
Although the home is conveniently positioned on the corner of a vibrant neighborhood in South London, its secluded courtyard entrance offers an immediate escape from any of the hustle and bustle of city life. Upon entering the home, guests and residents are welcomed to crisp white interiors, illuminated with an abundance of natural light.
The open-concept floor plan also allows for an effortless flow between the spacious living areas. "The other extraordinary feature is the huge roof terrace," notes Bill. "It is probably one of the best party spaces of any home in South London."
"Apart from the copper cladding and the roof terrace, I think it is also worth adding that the Copper House is just outside the traffic congestion zone, a short walk from The Oval tube station, and only two miles from Trafalgar Square," adds Bill. "It truly is in deepest Central London, and just a few minutes by bike or on the tube from the West End."
The Copper House at 69 Caldwell Street, London SW9 0HA is currently listed for £749,950 (approximately $911,787 USD) by Tom Floyd of Winkworth.
