Designed around the concept of secluded togetherness, Mit Chit House—“Mit Chit” meaning close together—balances private spaces with more public ones that invite the outside in with a series of interior courtyards. Surrounded by fruit gardens, the new residence connects to an existing family home via an upper-level enclosed bridge.

Although connected to the existing home, Mit Chit turns inward to create a sense of privacy for the owners. Four interior courtyards within the home’s 3,767-square-foot plan create a sense of escapism, each containing mature trees that extend beyond the home’s roofline. Reaching in and up, the courtyards lend a feeling of expansiveness to this introspective family home.

The courtyards, along with strategically placed windows and skylights, also invite daylight into the home’s core. Wide halls and generous stairwells enhance the home’s light, airy feel. “No matter where you stand, a gorgeous view of greenery and the house’s interior keep family members connected to the outside world,” says Looklen’s founding director, Nuttapol Techopitch.

The home’s three-levels are stacked in an L-shaped volume oriented around a central axis. On the ground floor, an open living area with living and dining connects seamlessly to a den above. The home is capped by the third and most private level, which contains two children’s bedrooms.

“In keeping with the notion of togetherness, the den acts as an intersection between the old and new houses, allowing the parents of the family to easily make their way to their children on the other side of the home,” says Techopitch.
