This Hip Brazilian Loft Keeps the Bedroom in a Nest-Like Box

Created for a design showcase in São Paulo, Loft Ninho is a warm, oak-wrapped space with an en suite bedroom box.

For the annual architecture, interior design, and landscaping design showcase CASACOR in São Paulo, architects were posed with the challenge of creating interiors within the Jockey Club de São Paulo, a heritage equestrian club.

For his part, architect Nildo José transformed an 860-square-foot loft, dubbed Loft Ninho, into a warm, welcoming hideaway. The firm enveloped the ceiling, walls, and floor in European oak and nested an en suite bedroom in a ceramic-tiled cube. An indoor garden, accessible by a steel ladder, caps it all.

A collection of artful furnishings rounds out the scheme in Loft Ninho. The cool gray Saccaro sofa and rug by Domdaqui Tapetes balance out the wood tones, while a spectrum of green accents, starting with the mint trim, bring welcome pops of contrast.

Nagatani-en Hakeme Donabe - Small

The distinctive textures and wabi-sabi aesthetic of this classic, everyday donabe pot make every meal an encounter with the essence of beauty in imperfection. Aside from typical hotpot dishes such as sukiyaki and shabu-shabu, this Iga-yaki clay pot can also be used for making piping-hot stews or steamed dishes. The brush strokes, called hakeme, on the pot’s surface are an ancient type of decoration originating on the Korean Peninsula. White clay is brushed on the pot using a paint brush, after which a clear glaze is applied over the entire surface.
