Project Details:

Location: Los Angeles, California

Architect: Bunch Design / @bunch_design

Footprint: 500 square feet

Builder: MS Elite General Construction Inc

Structural Engineer: Craig Phillips Engineering & Design

Photographer: Ye Rin Mok / @yerinmok

From the Architect: "The project is a 500-square-foot ADU in the Mid- Wilshire/Melrose area. It is one of Bunch Design’s prototype designs with one bedroom and one bathroom. The ADU has a simple gable roof to mimic the existing main house at the front of the property. This small house is filled with design moves and magic to create a comfortable space to live in.

"All four sides of the house have large clerestory windows that bring in light and provide views. When cut out, urban views like electrical lines and slivers of the neighboring roofs can become interesting views. Large folding doors open to the side yard, enlarging the living space. A large mirror in the bathroom visually doubles the room’s width, while high ceilings help you forget that you are in a very small space. We believe that ADUs, although typically very small, can be designed to be very beautiful and exciting."
