Completed in 2004, the hydraulic Rolling Bridge in London defies the standard drawbridge: It unfurls and rolls up to a circular structure to both allow pedestrians to cross an inlet behind Paddington Station, and accommodate passing boats. The studio drew inspiration from industrial and organic forms—and in particular, the animatronic dinosaurs featured in the 1993 film Jurassic Park.

Favela Tree (2004) by Fernando and Humberto Campana, estimated at $10,000–$15,000. Inspired by the “Favela” chair designed by the Campana Brothers in 2002, this unique sculpture was commissioned by Murray Moss and handmade in the Campana studio in 2004. Constructed from various pieces of wood randomly joined together, it references favelas, the ad-hoc shelters built of scraps of wood, bricks, and stones on the fringes of Brazilian cities

When Oslo-based architect Marianne Borge was approached in 2004 by a client who wanted an actual cabin rather than a second home, she was instantly inspired by the challenge of working on a smaller scale. The home, called Woody35, has a distinct shape that makes it stand out from its surroundings despite the modest size of the building.

When Rob and Mary Lubera started pulling threads to uncover the origins of their new home—the lone midcentury house amid rows of Tudor Revivals in suburban Detroit—not even architecture scholars could have anticipated what they would find. Theirs is the last surviving residence by Alexander Girard (1907–1993), a modernist visionary who made his name in textiles but tried his hand at virtually everything, architecture included. The shoji-like laminate screens, seen in the entryway, are characteristic of his Japanese-influenced work.
