When newlyweds Hailey Stoner and Jeremie Patrick returned from their honeymoon, they immediately moved into their new house—even though it was still in the middle of renovations. For three months, the couple endured daily construction and a lack of a working kitchen as they placed their faith in Chris and Claude Beiler, a pair of self-taught designers and the founders of the real estate agency Chris & Claude Co.

Chris and Claude not only found and helped with the purchase of the house—a late 19th-century rowhome fixer-upper—but were also tasked with designing the master suite in the attic as well as the kitchen and dining area on the first floor.

“They were so brave,” laughs Claude, noting that the newlyweds planned their wedding and home renovation at the same time. “They lived out of one bedroom and a tiny bathroom while our crew ran in and out of the attic and first floor every single day. They were crazy, and they admit it, but at least they’ve got a great story to tell their kids and a beautiful home to show for it.”

After working together with the homeowners on a mood board and the design schematics, Chris and Claude stripped the dated home of almost all of its existing finishes but saved the original hardwood floors, exposed brick walls, and select architectural elements. To brighten up the dark interiors, the designers knocked down multiple walls and painted the walls and ceilings a bright white.
