From the architect: “The theme of bringing the outdoors in continues in the master bathroom, which opens up to a private garden encircled by concrete walls beneath a canopy of oak trees; even the shower has direct access to the exterior.”

2. Chelsea House

Architect: Davey McEathron Architecture, Location: Austin, Texas

From the architect: “The first of two units on the site, the Chelsea House presents an open and inviting facade to the street that sets the tone for a series of spaces within that flow seamlessly into each other.The spacious interior establishes a dialog with a central courtyard space that is defined by the buildings surrounding overlapping volumes and serves to tie the home together into a fluid continuous experience.”

3. A Fresh Minimalist Take on a Traditional Barcelonan Home

Architect: Nuria Heras Diez of nu-he Studio, Location: Barcelona, Spain

From the architect: “Interior designer Nella Kasurinen and Nuria Heras, architect from nu-he Studio, designed the Avinyo Street Apartment, for a fast-growing family in Barcelona. The proposal echoes the simplicity of a Finnish design while keeping with historic Catalan-construction. [They] worked together to create a strong concept that maintains the original details and accentuates them with a minimalist aesthetic.”

4. Apartment With a View

Architect: Atelier Starzak Strebicki, Location: Poznań, Poland

From the architect: “The apartment with a view located on the seventh floor is a result of combining two flats. Its space is divided into two main and at the same time interpenetrating zones: intimate and daily. The first one includes a bedroom, a bathroom and a wardrobe, the second one embraces a living room, a kitchen, a dining room as well as an entry zone together with a toilet and a utility room. Mobile walls in the form of sliding doors allow the user to configure private and public spaces depending on his/hers changing needs. The apartment is defined by muted colors that create a background for particular elements of the interior.”

5. Wildwood

Architect: Giulietti / Schouten AIA Architects, Location: Beaverton, Oregon

From the architect: “The clients, who work nearby, requested a modern home with simple, clean lines to fit within the heavily forested 1.2-acre site and to embrace outdoor living throughout the year. They requested the home to be truly livable in the cool northwest climate with natural daylight and filtered views of the forest.”
