A Minimalist Cabin in New Zealand Is Crafted From Eco-Friendly Timber
Vertical slats give this elemental cabin in Cardrona Valley a graphic appeal.
Designed by Assembly Architects, this gabled cabin in Cardrona Valley is a showcase of Abodo’s sustainable timber, sourced from rapidly renewable New Zealand plantations. The Cardrona Cabin shares its alpine site with the ruins of small stone huts from the region’s gold rush days, inspiring the architects to reference "the simplicity of these historic huts," Abodo shares.
The cabin’s straightforward floor plan features a single opening that interrupts a graphic exterior of slatted Vulcan Screening in a Sioo:x finish—a material that will develop a gray patina that echoes the rocky landscape.

The interior of the cabin pays homage to traditional New Zealand carpentry with its exposed timber form. Additionally, the "highly grained timber panelling" references the use of roof sarking common in "early period cottages in the area," notes Abodo. Fusing contemporary materials and traditional craftsmanship, the final product sets a standard of innovation for future design.

HAY CPH30 Table
Equally suitable as a dining table or desk, CPH30 table is part of the Copenhague furniture collection designed by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec. Hay invited the Bouroullec brothers to design the furniture for the new buildings of the University of Copenhagen (KUA). Due to the symmetrical frames and sleek legs, Copenhagen chairs and tables both stack vertically, allowing an almost infinite stacking. The Bouroullec brothers wanted to create furniture with greater originality and a more domestic expression than the traditional educational furniture. The Copenhague collection fits for all kinds of public and private use. Photo Courtesy of Finnish Design Shop
ShopHAY Iris Vase
Soft forms with sharp edges are combined with muted tones to create the distinctive Iris Vase. The ultra-thin porcelain has been handcrafted in Japan and left unglazed for matte finish that reinforces the vase's understated elegance.
ShopMuuto Cover Chair
Looking for a strong, lightweight and altogether unique modern chair? We've got it covered. The Muuto Cover Armchair is a distinctive piece made entirely out of solid wood and molded wood veneer. Instead of using metal connectors, matching plywood is folded over the legs and backrest to securely lock the chair together (and creating a comfortable armrest in the process).
