Midcentury and ’80s Finds Transform a Rental in Switzerland Into a Fabulous Family Home
When designer Alexandrine Lukach and her family got stuck at a rental due to the pandemic, they flexed sewing skills and flea market savvy to zhuzh up the place.
Alexandrine Lukach thought she’d only be away from her hometown of Kyiv for a week. To visit her grown children, who were studying in the Swiss city of Lugano along the border of Italy, she had rented an apartment to accommodate her family of five. Soon after arriving, the pandemic set in. Two months into lockdown with no end in sight, Alexandrine realized the bare-bones, 1,076-square-foot space would need an update if they were going to stay.
