  • Michael Leon
    @michael_leon
    ‘Saying that Michael Leon has been influential to the worlds of both design and skateboarding – and design within skateboarding – would be an understatement. While still in high school, he designed his first pro model board for New Deal. In the years since, his distinct style and… well… wisdom when it comes to his craft, have put him in a class all his own. His artwork has been exhibited internationally in numerous exhibitions. He was a co-creator of Commonwealth Stacks, Rasa Libre, and Nike’s Tech Pack. He has contributed design and art direction to Fourstar Clothing, Girl Skateboards, Stussy, DC, Arkitip, and most recently, Nike SB. Michael’s work will forever be cemented in time as one of the most admired and imitated of this century.’- Bob Kronbauer Michael Leon was born in 1974 in Tampa, Florida. He graduated from CalArts in 1997. He is currently based in Portland, Oregon. Photo by Chad Kula. From the sequence ‘LA River Fall (After Bas Jan Ader)’.
  • Delugan Meissl Associated Architects
    @delugan_meissl_associated_architects
    The architecture of Delugan Meissl Associated Architects is much like language, in which meaning is constituted by the relationships among individual words. In contrast to other architectural philosophies, DMAA do not reduce this principle of hermetic language to a game in and of itself, but rather, they root it in their work with as many multivalent relationships between architecture and its contextual environment as possible, premiating the context of the building and the physical presence of its users. Directed and rigorous processes of design are guided from spatial perception to future users. Their architectural concepts and connections to the existing fabric are reminiscent of organisms entering into dialogue with the environment, as integral parts of an overall system. Inside and out, their concepts break down the order of conventional rooms into flowing, functionally defined spatial sequences. Volumes directly engage the body of the observer through their scale, the way they interact with gravity, geometry, and the way they “hint at the inexpressible”. Independent of size or function, the work of Delugan Meissl Associates Architects is consistently determined by these design concepts and theoretical principles. In this regard, Delugan Meissl Associate Architects are committed to developing the principle of intensification, along with ways to spatialize it and make it physiologically tangible. As opposed to a type of “representational form” of contemporary architecture that is geared primarily to the visual and to interpretive meaning, 'actual form' is generated, which, in its physiological effects on the senses and the body, follows the dictum: "Aesthetics is nothing more than the art of applied psychology."

  • monovolume architecture+design
    @patrikped
    The architecture office monovolume has been working in the sector of architecture and design since 2003 piloting projects, that go from urban design to interior design and furnishing. The architects met at the faculty of architecture at the University of Innsbruck, where they have already collaborated and worked together on projects. The participation at several national contests has given them the opportunity to carry out a number of successful projects which laid the foundation stone of the actual teamwork and the beginning of the mutual professional activity. Our workplace becomes an innovative scene. How is it possible to create an innovative site and how do architecture and design react thereon? Engagement – The common object is the way to succeed. Complexity – People, who are faced with many impressions and opinions nowadays, need a well-linked mental activity which reduces complexity, develops a sense for important factors and which is able to concentrate on synergies and contents. As a matter of principle there exist no limits – from this consideration arise interesting tensions as well as astonishing points of departures and ideas for individual, unconventional architecture and fine design. The monovolume team is continuously looking for a challenge. Architecture and design mean much more than just the creation of a form. It is important to us to question the traditional beliefs and habits and look at them from another point of view in order to create something innovative. In the foreground there is always the human being with its needs and desires. At each individual project the constructor and the architects start from this context rising methods of resolutions which are analyzed and adapted together. Remarkable overlapping uses, interesting spatial sequences, diverse applicability are the results of an exemplary cooperation in between the constructor and the designer. The basic thought, which runs throughout the whole project and which represents the label monovolume, is an intelligent architecture and an audacious design, which react on the environment taking advantage of its characteristics.
