Our office is dedicated to the creation of new paradigms for sustainable development. We use a holistic, integrated design approach that emphasizes symbiotic relationship with the natural environment -- a philosophy we've termed "global environmental contextualism." This approach, which takes into consideration building orientation, daylighting, generation of wind power, solar absorption, and a site's geothermal properties, represents a fundamental change in the design process, in which form facilitates performance. It's predicated on the understanding that everything within the built and natural environment is connected, and that a building's design should stem from an understanding of its role within that context -- locally, regionally and globally.

Each building begins with the site, and the particular desires to transform it. Buildings are earth, made of matter, and a continuation of the geological processes that produced their sites, part of natural evolution. A building marks and amplifies its unique spot on the globe. Like a lens, it brings to focus its particular time and place. This relationship to the local, to location, is a natural way for uniqueness to emerge from ideas of buildings which may be generic and general. Through the relations to geography, site, climate, culture, and resources, buildings are naturally specific. Both the buildings in landscapes and the work in cities demonstrates this marking of time and place. Green architecture is not just about the future of building, but the key to any future. We have developed both passive and active energy systems. These include intelligent passive design using solar orientation, shading, day lighting, window layers, and active systems like sensors which calibrate and balance interior environments, photovoltaics, geothermal and river cooling. We use renewable resources, and build lightly, using the least possible materials and effort to encompass the most possible volume and space. Our entire practice revolves around the idea of economy and optimization.

We understand design as a cultural act which engages our everyday experiences and brings together individuals with their built environment. Our design philosophy is grounded in a basic conviction and fundamental belief that great architecture is less about style and more about discovery. This belief is what drives our relentless pursuit of connecting client needs and desires, project budget, context, and artistic expression into a truly unique sense of place. LineBox is a small collaborative design studio that is interested in all project types regardless of size and budget. Unlike large corporate firms our clients benefit from having direct access to the principal of the firm throughout the entire project. Sustainable design is the practice of designing physical objects and the built environment to comply with economic, social, and ecological consciousness. By this we mean integrating living spaces with the natural environment in a harmonic way. We identify and utilize the specific characteristics of the land in each design in order to ensure the home is well suited to its surroundings. In every project we look to incorporate sustainable elements to the extent that the client wishes to do so. We look to optimize key success factors of sustainable design including: passive heating and cooling, reclaimed materials, green roofs, geothermal heating / cooling and harnessing all the natural energies in the environment. Principal Andrew Reeves founded LineBox Studio Inc. in 2002. He is a full member of the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) and the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (MRAIC). Andrew received his professional Bachelor of Architecture degree from Carleton University (2002). His strong fundamentals in the practice of architecure have been strengthened through fifeteen years of work experience in projects of varying scale and complexity. This knowledge and experience is applied to each project and special attention is given to every client. From 1994 to 1998, Andrew established the basis for his technical abilities while working in two small architecture firms in Toronto and Ottawa as a technologist and designer on residential, commercial, institutional and educational projects. The residential work included a variety of experiences including master planning and designing custom millwork for a variety of custom homes. In 1998, Andrew was hired by Brisbin Brook Beynon Architects based in Toronto, an award winning international architectural firm specializing in a wide range of projects including large commercial, institutional, academic, government and health care facilities. His aptitude for design allowed him to progress from project designer to project Architect on a variety of commercial and institutional projects.
