  • Bamboo Bike Studio
    @bamboo_bike_studio
    Our story is rooted in a personal and professional appreciation for bicycling— the best solution to simple, self-propelled, affordable (and enjoyable) transportation we’ve found, meeting the needs of a world burdened with dwindling resources and an ongoing climate and energy crisis. We add to these intrinsic benefits in two ways: first, by teaching our students to build their own bicycles, from scratch, establishing an active, self-invested relationship between person and product. Second, by employing bamboo, a renewable, fast-growing resource and a performance-positive alternative to steel, aluminum and carbon fiber, as our frame material. Eco-friendly and technically premium, bamboo enables our students to do the previously impossible: fabricate a bike frame in just one weekend.
  • Bamboo Bottle Company
    @bamboobottlecompany
    At Bamboo Bottle Company, we strive to be good stewards of this Earth. It's one reason we chose bamboo. Bamboo minimizes carbon dioxide and generates up to 35% more oxygen than an equivalent stand of trees. One hectare of bamboo scrubs 62 tons of carbon dioxide a year. Sometimes, good stewardship is doing the little things right, such as burning the logo in the bottle rather than using adhesives. And sometimes, for the big decisions, we need suggestions. We know we aren't perfect. But we're trying. Let's help each other. A sustainable lifestyle? We'll drink to that!

  • Smith & Fong
    @smith_fong
    Smith & Fong Company was founded in 1989 out of a truly passionate affinity for bamboo and with an overarching philosophy of sustainability. The firm began as a producer of bamboo accessories and was the first U.S. company to produce bamboo flooring for the North American market. Plyboo flooring, plywood and veneer is derived from Moso bamboo harvested from a forest that requires no irrigation or pesticides. Each year, 20 percent of the plantation’s bamboo—comprised of five-year-old poles only—is cut by hand, ensuring the forest canopy is not compromised to disrupt the ecosystem. The bamboo shoots that emerge in the winter as a food source for wildlife are not harvested or affected. Plyboo bamboo flooring and plywood products offer endless possibilities for architects and interior designers, whether the focus is on green building or cutting-edge design. This area includes all the information needed by architects, designers, and specifiers, as well as information directly relating to the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) rating system.

  • BigGrassLiving.com
    @michaelsalas
    Welcome to our Big Grass Community! During our travels around the world, we are repeatedly captivated by the abilities of craftspeople to turn natural and recycled materials into functionally clever, beautiful works. In Duang's native Thailand, we have met artisans with centuries-old skills but who often lack access to markets to sustain their talents and traditions. So, in 2006 we established Big Grass as a destination oasis to share these eco-friendly cultural treasures with you. For generations, people in developing countries have used, reused and re-purposed natural resources. Their work proves that furniture and accessories can be sustainable, expertly made, stylish and functional, and still affordable. That's what Big Grass is all about. — John Hanesworth, Co-Founder and Co-Owner We rehabilitated an auto body shop in San Antonio into a showroom and garden that initially featured garden bamboo structures. Today, after much growth and evolution, we are the only US source for two hand-crafted bamboo furniture lines, and the only US supplier of our majestic Ong™ rainwater harvesting jars. Our collections of indoor and outdoor decor, accessories and artifacts continue to grow. Because of our personal relationships with artisan vendors and frequent trips to Southeast Asia, we are also able to customize your orders and source hard-to-find pieces. We invite you to explore our website and newly expanded e-shop. We have many more one-of-a-kind items in the store, so visit us when you’re in the neighborhood. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, write or talk to us. We’ll work closely with you to find that perfect piece for your home and garden. John Hanesworth Duang Hanesworth

  • ReForm School
    @reform_school
    After about 10 rough drafts, and page after page of babbling, it seemed we were writing a novel instead of an “about us” page… We wanted to talk about how we were two high school friends who always dreamed of opening our own shop, and how it took YEARS for it to finally happen. How, after so many let downs & disappointments, we finally found the perfect spot to set up school. We thought we would mention that we were perfectly happy with our little brick & mortar and never really planned on starting a website but also never anticipated (not in a million years) the overwhelming response we would get from people all over the world. A web shop seemed like the logical thing to do, considering not everyone can make it down to Silverlake.. We definitely wanted to talk about how sustainable design is a huge focus for us, and that green living is important to us, not only in business but in our personal lives as well. We wanted to be eco-friendly without being too in-your-face about it. The last thing we wanted was to be another shop selling all things hemp & bamboo ( not that we don't love hemp & bamboo). We really wanted to point out how much we love and respect all of the artists and crafters whose handmade wares fill us with inspiration. One of the greatest things about having a shop is being able to support these talented folks and all of their creativity. But mostly… mostly we wanted to say THANK YOU… thank you so much, to everyone who has supported us. When we opened our doors we just hoped (and prayed) that people would enjoy our products as much as we did. Your kind words and encouragement have made ReForm School a dream come true for us. We still get excited every time we get an email from someone wanting to be added to our mailing list. You will never know how much it means to us and we hope you continue to enjoy the shop as much as we do. (Hey look at that… our “About Us” page is finally done!) xoxo,Billie & Tootie
