Over 50 miles outside of Chicago, one of Mies's most famous commissions, the Farnsworth House, lies. The one-room weekend retreat, built of steel and glass, is representative of the International Style. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2006.

Built for the pavilion, the Barcelona chair became an instant classic. It has been produced by Knoll since 1953.

Young’s <5_MY chair for Coalesse, $1,700, is a cutting-edge carbon-fiber design that weighs in at less than five pounds. The chair was inspired by his work with bicycles, is stackable for easy storage, and can be customized to match any color using an app.

Next to the kitchen, Eames and Jacobsen chairs welcome dinner guests to the dining-room table. The back wall is covered in particleboard panels.

Kellogg spent five years working on the house, and the structure was completed in 1993.

The 3,200-square-foot house evokes Mies van der Rohe's modernist aesthetic, in a stacked, three-dimensional form. Dirk Lohan of Lohan Anderson, the grandson of the iconic architect, designed the house to be a perfect cube.
