Jocie specified slate floor tiles and cement wall tiles by Clé, then applied Venetian plaster from Master of Plaster with the help of some friends. "It’s really fun once you get into the rhythm of it, but definitely takes some time," says the architect.

A full-length skylight above the floating steel shelf in the kitchen allows light to stream across the Venetian plaster wall and bounce off the high-gloss white shelf. “It creates an ever-changing and ethereal experience,” says designer Jamie Chioco. Inspired by a recent trip to the ancient Roman villa and seaside refuge of Pompeii, Italy, this bedroom by Kari McIntosh Design serves as a tranquil retreat for special guests of the home. Soothing neutral tones—ivory walls and cream bedding—are juxtaposed with a dramatic red Venetian plaster ceiling. Tucked inside the closet is the "Lararia," a lavish fresco with vibrant imagery of trees and snakes, believed by Romans to bring abundance and good fortune.

The venetian plaster island base plays off the other dark accents within the house and directly relates to the hand-troweled concrete counter above. The kitchen is organized around a skylight oculus, whic informs the shape of the island and the pendant fixture by Sonneman.

The home includes a gorgeous wine cellar, perfect for any wine enthusiast. Able to store 250 bottles, the cellar is surrounded by custom Venetian plaster and exposed brick, emanating an inviting and romantic aesthetic.
