A Treeline Terrace Channelling Philip Johnson (Atlanta, Georgia)

The brainchild of a local architect and designer who financed the construction themselves, the Berne Street Treehouse, located on Atlanta’s BeltLine system of parks and trails, provides a literal bird’s-eye-view of the forests surrounding downtown. The upper room (pictured), bathed in sunshine from the skylight, opens to a series out outdoor terraces.

We love this lamp for its brilliant design features, including an etched lens that gently diffuses the light of its LED bulbs for comfortable task work. A single wooden dowel and metal base combine to create a clean and simple modern style statement.

Tokyo, Japan-A city near and dear to the heart of popular culture, Tokyo endured two devastating catastrophes in the 20th century that destroyed half the city. Consequently, much of the architecture in the greater Tokyo area is stylistically modern. Notable buildings include Fuji TV headquarters on O’Daiba, the Imperial Palace, and the chipper red and white Tokyo Tower. Fans of Kenzo Tange already know of the Yoyogi National Gymnasium with its suspension roof design and curvilinear lines reminiscent of Le Corbusier’s Ronchamp. For those interested in traditional Japanese architecture, the famous temple city of Kamakura is only a quick train ride south. Photo by: cvoser.

Channel is a minimal take on lighting, a line in space. Working back from the light source, high efficiency LEDs in a linear configuration, the lamp is named after the aluminum channel that houses the bulbs. An etched lens diffuses the light and a vertical wood dowel mounted to a circular metal base complete the simple geometric structure.

The couple had a big flatscreen TV but didn't want it to be the focus of the living room. Placed on the wall behind one of the red couches, it hangs quietly without drawing attention to itself but is in perfect position to be watched from the second couch (not pictured). Below the television is a counsel that Feldman's mother picked up at a thrift store for $50. Feldman has her reservations at first about the piece but after they took took off the base and lifted it on 2-by-4s for an elevated look, she was sold.
