Earth House is dedicated to Dong-joo Yoon, a Korean poet who died as a political prisoner in Japan during WWII.

Eliasson’s 1993 work Beauty sprays mist into the air to produce a rainbow that intensifies and disappears as viewers move around it.

Kellogg spent five years working on the house, and the structure was completed in 1993.

“My grandfather, George Fasullo, was an architect who died before I was born,” says architect Ryan Bollom. “My mom used both of our drawings as wallpaper in the secondary living space.” During the lockdown, Bollom formed an extended bubble with his parents, and he and his wife, also an architect, used the space as an office.

Outside, a punchy dining set spray-painted by Nagel livens up the patio.

The design team sprayed the metal structure’s inner walls with thermal insulation. Then they framed the interior with studs and clad it in spruce plywood.

The Cesca dining rooms chairs are from Knoll. The design team purchased the industrial bookshelf from Leroy Merlin and sprayed it with red paint.

The Continuous Extension exterior is defined by coarse spray plaster, large floor-to-ceiling windows, and larch banding.

The architects sprayed a graphite polyurethane coating onto the steel structure to achieve an origami-inspired "visually light, paper form".

Spray foam insulation has been applied on all sides of the container. A small air conditioner helps cool the unit in summer.

The fresh, minimal kitchen is conveniently located off the dining room. The light-colored cabinets are treated with a high-quality factory spray-painted finish.

Poteet describes the space as “unbearably hot” before he used spray-foam insulation between the exterior walls and the interior bamboo. “Now it’s the equivalent of a steel ice chest,” he says.

Balogh, who died in 2006, was a celebrated local architect. He was also credited for designing an estimated 150 structures throughout Michigan, Illinois, and Arizona.

In an effort to keep the rooms as pure and spare as possible, Atherton and Keener forewent traditional moldings in favor of a subtle reveal at the top and bottom of the wall. They sprayed the ceiling with silver Ralph Lauren metallic paint, selected to tonally match the concrete floors and reflect light deeper into the room. As a result, says Keener, “the walls feel more sculptural.”

Corrugated steel ceilings are left exposed—a reminder that this is, after all, a container converted into a home. Spray foam insulation keeps the space from experiencing extreme temperature shifts.

In the foyer, Phillip Jeffries’ tranquil blue Fade Sea Spray wallpaper gives a subtle nod to the nearby Blue Ridge Mountains, which guests have views of from the property.

The sculptural concrete ceiling was created with recycled bargeboard and sprayed-on concrete. The rough texture catches the light. Says Knight, "The imperfect becomes perfect as it celebrates the movement of the sun throughout the day."

Starting with the exterior, the couple tweaked the original cream and red scheme by spraying the body of the trailer with a cream base color, then commissioned artist Faye Bell to paint a custom Southwest-inspired stripe.

Shakespeare tackled the installation of the tiles and the shelves herself to further reduce construction costs. For the shelves, she purchased wood from Home Depot and mounted it on metal IKEA brackets, which she spray-painted black.

Draper's frame consists of cold-rolled steel and closed-cell spray insulation for the floor, walls, and roof. Land Ark RV added an extra layer of rigid insulation outside the framing for the walls and ceiling.

Henning Larsen Architects' design was used in spray painted white with painted metal bands that have been painted the same color and oak counter tops for this bright and airy contemporary home in Charlottenlund, Denmark.

The top of the mezzanine wall peels away, allowing the space to remain somewhat open. It also provides an opportunity to inset a flush, recessed, flexible LED light into the top of the wall as it dies into the ceiling.

The spray-lacquered MDF kitchen was made in construction team Produk’s wood shop in Lithuania. A custom table from British designer James Burleigh joins a pendant from Hand and Eye Studio and chairs by Hay.

The lockers were picked up at a flea market for $100 and painted with Rustoleum Pink spray paint in “Sweet Pea.” The existing bunk received new mattresses.
