Wenes asked artists from Studio Simple to devise an imaginative storage solution for the bathroom. Starting at one end of the room and working their way across, the team assembled chests and cabinets found at a thrift shop and painted them all white. “It’s like a mosaic,” says Wenes. “It’s a very personalized concept—I feel like it’s my bathroom.”

X marks the spot with House Industries’ X Ornament. An expressive font, the X has an ornate quality that dresses up the design. In addition to capturing the letter itself, the X also represents a kiss, making this a sweet token for a loved one.

When it comes to product testing, Sarmiento has no shortage of willing volunteers: Teresa's children Manuel (age 6), Julian (age 3), and Clara (age 1) join Teresa's sisters son Burno (age 3) in playing with the toys. The ships' rough forms were very intentional: "It was really enlightening for us to see them playing with wooden pieces that still weren't formal blocks...only wooden pieces that they found in the carpentry workshop," says Teresa.
