Eales, a 2013 Design Indaba Emerging Creative whose surfboard rack won Most Beautiful Object in South Africa two years ago, is a product designer with a focus on the integrity of the raw materials he uses. Together, with a shared passion for the water and creating environmentally friendly products, he and Schlebach hope that Sealand will help keep litter from South Africa’s shores.

It took Susanna several layers of sanding—and then finally tossing her water-based paint and selecting the proper oil-based formula—to get the floor as white as she'd envisioned. But she couldn't be happier with the result. “The apartment looks bigger when there are white surfaces for the light to bounce on,” she says.

A combination of sliding doors, strategically placed voids, and large indoor plantings create fluid boundaries between indoors and out. The interior courtyard garden—landscaped with tropical plants and volcanic sand—is visually accessible from nearly every room, including the dining and kitchenarea.

When it came to paint the 40-foot-long curving steel-and-glass window wall designed by Chris and fabricated by Sand Studios, the Deams turned to Steve Bauer of Baumar, who specializes in custom paint finishes, to get the job done. Metallic automotive paint stands up well to the elements—from blaring sunlight to heavy rain—and comes in an almost infinite array of colors.

Ionescu’s room has built in shelving for his eclectic collections. “We embrace everything—new, old, anything that embraces the truth in architecture,” says Ionescu. “We’ve been compared to the Deconstructivists, but we like things that are decorative or made by hand—16th century objects, Art Nouveau, anything that has an aesthetic truth to it.”

Created by one of Japan's oldest porcelain manufacturers Scholten & Baijings, this tea set is both modern and timeless.

The design was created using a mixture of water and gelatin with algae materials. Pigment is then placed on top of the surface. It’s critical that the pigment doesn’t sink to the bottom of the gelatin bath since the next step involves pressing coated papers against the pattern. The result is a print of the marbled texture. The original prints are cut up, uploaded, and then reconfigured digitally. Installing the wallpaper is done with panels that are double-cut and connected to create a seamless effect.

A nomadic piece made from oak, steel, acrylic, and calf-skin, the Standard Floor Coaster is mobile table and storage unit. Unlike a regular table, which rarely gets touched, the Standard Floor Coaster must be interacted with each time its used.

The Standard Table Lamp, made from copper, leather, and acrylic, lacks one thing—an on-off switch. To turn the lamp on, the user must choose a light from two fixtures (one large and one small) and place it in the copper tower.

The Standard Collection was inspired by how users interact with the objects around them. Knauf & Brown describe the three objects, a stool, a lamp, and a mirror, as “manual versions of their automatic counterparts.”

Designed by Felicia Ferrone, the Margot Collection presents a contemporary interpretation of cut glass. Handcrafted by master glassblowers in the Czech Republic, the Margot Collection is created from fluted Borosilicate glass to allow for the pieces to function in a range of temperatures. It includes a white wine glass, red wine glass, water goblet, champagne coupe, and dessert goblet, all sold as a set of two.

Designed by Felicia Ferrone for fferrone, the Margot Collection presents a contemporary interpretation of cut glass. Handcrafted by master glassblowers, the Margot Collection is created from fluted Boroscilicate glass to allow for the pieces to function in a range of temperatures. Made in the Czech Republic by master glassblowers, each piece in the Margot Collection is a sculptural take on traditional drinkware.

The Standard Vanity Mirror is a tabletop mirror is two-sided. One side is a regular mirror, rotate the panel, however, and a leather panel with steel clasps that can be used to display photos is revealed.
