For cosmetics company CO/CO, Tatabi created the branding and packaging design. Taking a cue from nature, the simple packaging almost transforms the beauty goods to food products.

Coco Chanel and Elizabeth Taylor bookend this bay window, and they could have sat comfortably together in this “Swedish Blue” nook.

An outdoor shower tucked behind a screen off the master bedroom neutralizes this threat. “We thought it sounded great for muddy kids to run up and shower off there,” Coco says.

A Coco pendant from local designer Coco-Flip hangs above a wood dining table. The natural hues from the timber flooring and recycled brick blend with the warm furniture tones.

The custom table is a collaboration between Carter Williamson and Will Brennan, an Australian furniture designer from Orange, NSW. The bench seating was designed by Carter Williamson and constructed by Kraft Kabinets. The scalloped base is another theme that runs throughout the project. The curvaceous Coco pendant lighting is from Coco Flip.

Behind the Screens

A Coco Mini Pendant by Australian designer Kate Stokes hangs above the dining table.

The living room includes a Coco Flip pendant, a Jardan lounge and armchair, and a CV110 Cove coffee table.

An array of Fucsia pendants by Achille Castiglioni illuminates an Alden dining table by Eastvold and Chanel chairs from Article. The Eames Molded Armchairs are from Herman Miller’s polypropylene edition.

Kellogg spent five years working on the house, and the structure was completed in 1993.

I was intent on keeping the original stove, incorporating it into the cabinetry. I created a backsplash using inexpensive aluminum flashing that I texturized with a ball pein hammer.

The raised floors in the main working areas are constructed of white-painted plywood, while the entry features natural coco mat flooring.

Colorbond gutters, downpipes, flashings, and cappings have been installed.

The open floor plan features a whitewashed interior, beamed wood ceilings, splashes of hardwood, and a freestanding vintage fire drum fireplace sourced by Wilson’s wife Coco.

A new 50-years cedar shake roof with copper flashing was installed just last year.

After the armature is installed, the copper flashing receives a custom patina to help it blend in with the surrounding materials.

Cut surface lights in gold illuminate new Flash tables in black and a Wingback sofa and chair.

Galvanized-aluminum flashing is used to hide lighting fixtures and to delineate the tops of the redwood-strip walls. “It’s a simple palette of materials,” says Bornstein.

An assortment of dining chairs, including vintage iterations on the Eames shell chair by Charles and Ray Eames and Stokke's Tripp Trapp chair, are clustered around a table lit by a pendant lamp by Coco Flip Design Studio.

The kitchen holds a ceramic collection including Tall Mountain Tumblers from Coco Chispa, mugs from danvalbar, In Meditation Face Cups from Rogue Habits, and a West Perro Baja Duna Air Plant Vessel.

CoCo (Minneapolis, United States) A 20,000 square-foot hub for entrepreneurship and enterprise in downtown Minneapolis, CoCo gives new energy to a potent symbol of the old economy. It's a renovated grain exchange and trading floor, down to the Twitter messages and music playlists flashing across the repurposed trading board. Co-founder Kyle Coolbroth said the then-vacant space’s palladian windows and classic Doric columns spoke to him at first glance, so he and his colleagues purchased it and engineered an environment for collaboration, with interaction zones and a coffee bar situated to encourage serendipitous interaction when workers aren’t focused or hunkered down or meeting in private campsites set up on the open floor. The renovation by MacDonald & Mack Architects won a heritage award from the AIA Minneapolis chapter.
