A view from the playroom into one of the children's bedrooms. A curated selection of Farrow & Ball vibrant colors was presented to both younger members of the family. The beautiful color selected for this bedroom wall is Oval Room Blue. The two bedrooms also show off one of our all time favorite ceiling fixtures - the Jasper Morrison designed Glo Ball by Flos. We are smitten with quality of light, from full on to fully dimmed, that comes from this deceivingly understated fixture.

Produced in 1948, the Ball Clock’s playful colors speak to the nation’s optimism and the scientific potential of the era. But the shape—reminiscent of an atom—also carries the shadow of atomic warfare, which haunted the national psyche during the Atomic Age.

The Ball Portable Outdoor LED Lamp ($119-$299) is another study in simplicity: waterproof and shockproof, these rechargeable LED lamps come in either 10, 14, or 20-inch diameters. Its elementary, spherical form translates to endless applications: arranged in patterns on a lawn, deployed within a pool, mounted atop a table (as seen here) and more. One charge means 8 to 10 hours of use.

The Stem Hanging Planter from Bower NYC presents a sophisticated play of materials. The planter is made from a spun aluminum bowl that rests on an interior stem—a steel rod that travels through the base of the bowl, through the plant’s soil, and above the bowl where it hangs from a waxed black cotton cord. The result is a decidedly sculptural piece that carefully balances components to create an artful hanging planter for indoor spaces.

The Deskstructure series from Seletti is a clever take on desktop storage. Crafted in fine porcelain, each Desktructure displays a familiar scene—a cityscape, ocean liner, or warehouse buildings. The structures include storage compartments for pens and pencils, paper clips, elastic bands, and other desk necessities. The components can be lined up together to create one cohesive storage structure, separated in different small groups, or spread across an entire desktop surface.

Created for Y’a Pas Le Feu Au Lac by FX Balléry, the PIK Vase is inspired by stacks of hay. Each vase is comprised of a cluster of three colorful glass cylinders that finish in beech wood cone bases. The varied heights of the cylinders creates an organic sensibility, as they replicate the variance of stack sizes found in fields. The cone bases end in small, austere points, which create the illusion that the PIK is floating slightly above the surface.

Danish designer Simon Legald was inspired by the silhouette created in a tree trunk as lumberjacks slowly chop away toward its center when he conceived of this series of Lumberjack Candle Holders. Each holder is carved from a single, cylindrical piece of solid wood. The result is a series of candle holders that blend an organic feel and a refined, sculptural quality, making them an ideal choice for a rustic kitchen or elegant dining room.

American designer George Nelson created everyday objects including lamps, clocks, and accessories with the mission of bringing modern design into American homes in the 1950s. Nelson worked with Vitra to create a variety of wall clocks, including the Ball Clock, now a midcentury icon. The design originated from a night of collaborating with Isami Noguchi, Bucky Fuller, and others, and although many designs from the session were considered silly, the sketch of the Ball Clock ended up becoming fully realized.

The Ball Clock is currently on sale for 15% off at the Dwell Store until 10/26/2014.
