With an adjustable round reflector, Cecilia Xinyu Zhang’s Equant suspension lamp offers indirect and diffused illumination.

Cheng kept the dining room chandelier and the original fireplace, and gutted most everything else, careful to keep changes in the spirit of the home’s quiet character. "It's an unassuming structure with jaw-dropping, 180-degree views once you walk in the door," says the designer.

"Custom cabinetry really made all the difference in this project," says Cheng.

Fu-Tung Cheng’s own home kitchen, which he designed and fabricated in 1985, featured an integrated solid concrete countertop and launched his career for custom concrete fabrication, which he specializes in to this day.

Cheng opened up the kitchen to the main living spaces and gave it an uber-functional layout.

Cheng inserted built-in drawers into a niche, then created an opportunity for display with open shelves above.

Melding Gavankar's own artwork with sentimental keepsake items, the gallery wall is meant to be "autobiographical," says Cheng.

Cheng had to borrow space from the bedroom to create a more functional bathroom, but a built-in dresser and desk keep the layout feeling spacious.

"I love that I was able to give the two kids their own rooms that showcase their likes without stepping away from the design of the home," says Cheng.

Cheng specified brass schluter inlay between the terrazzo tiles at the floor. "These are installed in an offset Y pattern, which is the first letter of their last name," says the designer.

"Originally, this space felt dark and tight," says Cheng of the pool house. "I wanted to transform it into something cool and Scandinavian-style

For the bedroom, she has used Seasons Summer Tropical Bloom, which is one of Zeng’s favorite designs. She knew she wanted a busy, dense floral pattern behind the bed to create the feeling of falling asleep in a jungle.

Highlights of the master bedroom include a fireplace and the watchmaker's bench that serves as a vanity. "We considered purchasing a vintage one at first, but knowing that Janina and/or her beauty team would be using this daily, we wanted to ensure that it would be sturdy, and not too precious," explains Cheng.

The 1912 Craftsman bungalow appears unchanged from the street, part of Cheng and Snyder’s strategy to maintain the neighborhood’s existing architectural character and appease local preservationists. A dark-gray finish from Glidden custom matches the home’s original color and contrasts with the bright interiors.

Zeng has beautifully woven modern and classic elements throughout her home's decor. The Sofa Workshop is upholstered with Andrew Martin fabric. The armchair and coffee table are from Made.

Because this was their first home purchase, Zeng admits she was a little obsessive about making it perfect. She used inspiration boards and mock-ups to help her visual each room.

Here is a look at her Dino Yellow Green wallpaper. When preparing her designs, Zeng will often create a pattern where the repetition isn't too obvious, as she believes this makes the look more immersive.

“I enjoy Zhang’s work for the playful forms and ergonomics,” says Chopra. The RISD graduate’s colorful ceramics are sold at Good Neighbor.

Born in China, Sian Zeng moved to Hungary with her parents when she was seven. She later relocated to London, where she studied textile design at Central Saint Martins, and now lives with her husband.
