Macrae-Gibson designed a 45,000-square-foot structure to add to PS 196Q's existing 1952 building in Forest Hills, Queens. The new building houses a new cafeteria and play yard deck and space for 644 additional students.

The Audiophile To some, speakers are the most alluring part of any audio system, and for most audiophiles, the stark, machined-aluminum enclosures of the Magico Q7 Mk II loudspeakers are equivalent to a stealth fghter jet. Where most speakers have screwedtogether fiber-board boxes, Magicos feature aluminum skeletons and skins and are bolted together for a sturdy build. The speaker drivers have graphene cones, and the high-frequency tweeter has a diaphragm of diamond-coated beryllium for maximum rigidity and sound transmission. Pricing matches the stratospheric aspirations at $229,000 per pair.

A Hy-Lite glass door can be found in the master bathroom, which is wrapped in Q-Stone tiles in Ice by Provenza. Kohler Flipside showerheads stand on either side.

Joseph Coughlin is the founder and director of AgeLab, a research center dedicated to exploring quality of living for the elderly and those who care for them.

What is your everyday bedding? I seem to have a lot of Matteo in my linen closet at the moment.

Baumann was named the director of the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum in 2013.

What’s your favorite kind of towel? We use our Turkish Pestemal towels. Hand-woven by traditional methods, using 100 percent Turkish cotton, and dyed with vegetable dyes, the pestemal is famous for its absorbency and softness. We also love using it as a tablecloth, a picnic blanket, a light throw, or even a beautiful shawl. They’re so versatile. Turkish pestamel towels, $39.

What is the best design book to give as a gift? Peter Zumthor: Buildings and Projects, 1985–2013, edited by Thomas Durisch (Scheidegger and Spiess, 2014), $250.

What’s your favorite kind of towel? Egyptian cotton Kassatex bath towels. They come in basic solid colors and are super soft. They’re really well priced and do the job. There’s nothing worse than a soft towel that does not dry you up. Bath towels from Kassatex, from $7.
