Fabian and Dorothee Heine’s renovation began and ended with a particular kitchen system. Almost a year before finding the flat they would call home, the Hamburg-based couple decided upon a matte black Vipp kitchen that Fabian had glimpsed in the window of the company’s Copenhagen showroom. The island serves as a generous workspace for Fabian to prepare dishes with her son Morten.

Anglepoise has reissued this industrial favorite created in 1934 by factory engineer George Carwardine. Ideal for task lighting, the 1227 has long been considered a classic for its fine construction and easy adjustability. This utility lamp is also available in three other colors.

Courtesy of the artist and P!, New York "As a painter, Lustig Cohen began to develop a hard-edged style in the 1960s that engaged abstract forms, vibrant colors, and the physicality of the canvas’ flat surface," says Akers. "Her earliest paintings relate to her thinking about design."

Case in point, one of his first creations was the Orbiter lamp, which was devised in 1967 as a functional and mechanically-based design. The simple arc treatment turned it into a timeless piece that’s still in production today.

The home is filled with pieces the couple has collected over the years. "“Rome wasn’t built in a day, and Josh and Matt’s house wasn’t either," laughs Josh.

Innauer Matt Architekten designed the house as simple wooden building resting atop a solid, reinforced concrete plinth.

In Esperance, Australia, Fiona and Matt Shillington turned an outdated holiday resort into a cozy compound with restored A-frames, log cabins, and cottages.

Below a twisting steel staircase sits a stool from the impossibly rare 1967 Girard Group for Herman Miller (it was only produced for one year). Stevens rennovated the home from top to bottom, including the Japanese-style fence in the garden.

Set on a 12.7 acre lot in the rolling forests of Columbia County, New York, the Gefter-Press House was designed by Columbia University professor and architect Michael Bell as a private haven.

Architect Sven Matt mixed basic shapes with rich details in this Austrian home. The lattice shell was hewn from silver fir sourced from a nearby forest. Eternit shingles clad the roof.

Last but not least, we loved British designer Matt Pugh’s decorative wooden Owls, handmade at his studio in Bath.
